BCC Juniors Aiming Higher

Junior cricket is developing nicely at BCC, with increasing numbers joining us and talented players being selected at the sub-district level. Three recent examples are (from left to right) Max Turner, Morgan Foot and Nicholas Lawrence.

Max Turner was selected in the CMCA U14 Des Nolan Cup squad. Although they lost the quarter-final to Federal District, Max performed consistently hitting 94 runs and taking 6 wickets over 5 matches, including a solid 3/19 off 9 overs against Federal District.

We will post some pictures of Max's achievements as they become available.

CMCA U12 Mitchell Shield winnersNicholas Lawrence was originally selected in Josh Brown Plate U12 squad but was promoted to the Mitchell Shield team that won the VMCU Mitchell Shield.  Undefeated, they convincingly beat Eastern by 9 wickets.

NicholaNicholas Lawrence with his CMCA winners medals was not dismissed and made 18 runs in two innings. He also took 5 wickets over 6 matches with his best figures of 2/2 coming in the Semi Final versus Box Hill.

Morgan Foot was selected in the RM Hatch U15 squad. Although the teams’ performance improved with each game an early loss left them out of the finals with two losses, two draws  (washouts) and two wins.

RM Hatch U15 squad Morgan was classed as a ‘developing’ Hatch player and batted just twice - being dismissed LBW, and run-out at the tail when the pressure was on and runs were required. Morgans’ highlight was taking a well-struck catch at Mid-on - “I had no time to worry how fast it came!”, and a wicket from his bowling in the last game.

These three players are punching well above their weight. Max qualifies for U14’s, but is playing U16’s. Nicholas (U12) is in just his second season of cricket, and Morgan (U14) is not 13 until April. We have no doubt these players will secure positions in next seasons’ representative cricket.

From all of us at BCC, we congratulate the boys and wish them the best in their cricketing future. Further, we know that there are other boys at BCC that will be striving to play representative cricket. The coaches, senior players, and Executive (from which there are many ex representative and District players) are here to help you attain your goals of being the best you can be.

Ask for help, listen to advice, work hard, and always aim higher.
