Frequently Asked Questions For Season 2011 / 2012

What are the age groups?

Under 12's - players must be under the age of 12 by the 1st of September for the coming season. This includes Under 12 modified.

Under 14's - players must be under the age of 14 by the 1st of September for the coming season.

Under 16's - players must be under the age of 16 by the 1st of September for the coming season.

Can girls play?

Yes, girls are encouraged to play and we have some that currently do.

What is it's my first time playing cricket or what if I have just come out of the Milo program?

We offer an Under 12 modified team which is perfect for anyone who is just starting out in cricket and is either too old for the Milo program or has finished the Milo program and is ready for the next step.  You can download the rules here or contact our modified coach for more information.

How do I register to play at Bentleigh?

Just download the Registration form from here, fill it out and send it to us in the post.

When is the registration day?

The registration day for season 2011/2012 was on Sunday the 28th of August.  If you weren't able to make it, don't worry as you can register anytime to play Junior cricket at Bentleigh.

What happened at the registration day?

Parents and kids filled out and submitted their registration forms, paid registration and received hand out information.  They got to meet some of the coaches and team managers as well as the Club President and Senior Coach.

How much is registration?

Registration is $80 per player.

How does this compare to other local clubs?

Very well. Some other clubs charge anywhere from $100 to $220.

What do I get for my $80?

The $80 registration fee covers all the costs of your child playing cricket at Bentleigh, including equipment, insurance and affiliation.  New players receive a cap.

Must I pay on the registration day?

Payment is preferred either before hand or on the registration day, but if not possible, then before Round 1.

What about Coaches and Managers?

Coaches and Managers for each team have been appointed and their contact details are listed on the Junior Contacts page of our website.

Are the Coaches/ Managers experienced?

Our Coaches are Level 1 Cricket Australia Coaching Accredited and have a current Working With Children Check.  Our Managers also hold a current Working With Children Check.

When is training?

The Under 12 modified teams train on a Tuesday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

The Under 12's train on a Wednesday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.  

The Under 14's & 16's train on a Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:00pm.

When is the first training session?

What clothing do I need for training?

We would prefer kids to wear a white cricket shirt (polo) or similar top and dark shorts / track pants and runners.

What days do the teams play on?

The Under 12's play Saturday mornings, and the Under 12 modified teams play on Sunday morning.  The Under 14's will be playing on a Saturday morning and the Under 16's on a Friday evening.

What clothing do I need for playing?

Long white cricket pants, white cricket shirt (polo) and runners.  A cricket hat (wide brim or cap) as well as sunscreen is also advisable.

Where can I buy this stuff?

We sell Club peaked caps and cricket shirts, or you can purchase from any store that caters for cricket.  We recommend Knight Sports in Moorabbin as our members receive a 10% discount off Knights own brand or 5% off all other cricket gear.

When do we get a fixture?

This is out of the Clubs hands and always seems to take until the third round (mid to late October) as the competition grades are not worked out until then. 

When does the season start?

Although the fixtures have not yet been finalised by the CMCA, we do know the starting date for the season. The first game will be the weekend of Saturday October the 15th.

What are the starting times?

8:15am sharp for one day games or 8:45am for two day games.  Under 12 modified start at 9:00am.

What are the finishing times?

Approximately 11:15am for one day games and 11:45am for two day games.

Is there a break over Christmas?

Yes.  The last game before Christmas will be the weekend of Saturday December the 16th.  The first game back after the Christmas break is the weekend of Saturday January the 14th. 

Can parents/guardians help out?

Yes, parents/guardians are encouraged to help out.  While we have a game day Coach and Team Manager, parental/guardian help is always required and appreciated.

How can I help out? 

Setting up stumps, sweeping the pitch, putting out boundary cones, scoring (where able) and umpiring (where able) are just some of the jobs you could assist with.

That sounds like a lot of work?

It's easy when everyone contributes.

What if as a parent, I don't know anything about cricket?

It's not essential for some jobs and you can always learn.  The Club offers training and information sessions at the start of the season.

Does the Club have social functions for juniors and parents?

Yes, please watch the website.  There are many Club functions during the season that we encourage our juniors and parents to attend.
