BCC Women celebrating on the pitch
The Bentleigh Cricket Club Women’s team is open to women and girls from age 13 of all abilities and levels of experience. Whether you are returning to cricket or trying it for the first time you’ll find us a warm and accepting environment and enjoy all the physical and social benefits of participating in sport.

While the team loves to hit a boundary and take a wicket, the primary focus is to create environment where women and girls of all ages and abilities can enjoy the physical and social benefits of playing in an inclusive and supportive local cricket club.

We have a strong culture of supporting and celebrating each other.

REDUCING BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION

Bentleigh Cricket Club recognises the barriers to the participation of girls and women in organised sport. We continually strive to make our club both accepting and accessible. We have a number of women who love to play but find that study or work and family commitments mean they can’t make every training session or match. By having a larger playing list we can rotate players through to allow for parental responsibilities, study schedules or shift work. This flexible approach has enable us to attract and retain a strong contingent of mums with school age children.

"No one was more surprised than me to find myself taking up cricket in my 40s, but it has been such an amazing experience. I’m loving every moment of it. Being able to bring my kids along means I know I can have some me time without having to feel guilty, and the kids love it too."

COMPETITION FORMAT

Our teams play in the Cricket Southern Bayside Women’s Competition which is a modified version of the Twenty 20 format (each side bats for 20 overs). Matches take approximately 3 hours and are played on Sunday afternoons against local clubs.

The season typically runs from October to March with most long weekends off and a break over the Christmas period.

TRAINING

Training runs from 6:00-7:30pm on Tuesday and Friday evenings.  Tuesdays focus on centre wicket training at Bailey Reserve while Friday evenings are at the club.

TEAM VALUES

Our team ascribes to the principle of Culture before Cover drives. To us this means:

  • We are here for the enjoyment of the game and each other.

  • Everyone has a place, all contributions are valued.

  • On and off the field we play with fairness, respect, good humour and enjoyment.

  • We take pride in our endeavours by celebrating our successes and continually striving to improve.

  • We use creativity and flexibility to overcome any barriers to participation.

  • We promote and model positive gender roles and involvement in sport for women and girls.

COACHES

Our culture has attracted a high calibre of coaches who want to work with our team to build skills, confidence and game strategy.  From teaching the basics of cricket right through to supporting our 1st XI women players.

Our team of coaches consists of a head coach leading a team of batting, bowling and wicket keeping specialist coaches.

Bentleigh Cricket Club understands the value of investing in coaching to achieve growth, success and happiness for all our players.
