What is the Junior Blasters program?

Junior Blasters is for kids new to cricket with participants building their skills through fun, game-based activities. The activites are designed for small groups to ensure every child gets a go, allowing them to test and learn new skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment. The active, inclusive program allows kids to make friends, develop social skills and team work. It's about fun, fitness and being a good sport!

As a Junior Blaster participants will learn how to catch, throw, bat and bowl while developing their game sense in fun interactive activities. It's specially designed for kids new to cricket. When they have mastered the basics they will be ready to graduate to Master Blasters where they can play modified games of cricket.

Junior Blasters is a fun and fast program, completed in a maximum of 60 minutes. All equipment is supplied and each participant receives a participant pack so kids can practice their skills during the program and at home with family and friends.

How do I register my child for the Junior Blasters cricket program?

Register by clicking the PlayCricket button at the top of this page. Parents must register online, and payment is required at this time.

How much is the program?

The cost is $129. The cost includes 11 Cricket Blast sessions and your choice of three equipment packs.

Additional Cricket Blast merchandise can be purchased through the Blast store.

Can I still register mid-way through the season?

Generally, you can register (if available) and go to the next available session. However, this is subject to resources and available places. Please contact us before attending sessions to ensure there are enough sessions left to provide value for your child’s cricket development.

I’ve registered for the wrong program/club, what do I do?

If you have enrolled in the incorrect program, please contact the Woolworths Cricket Blast Helpdesk via email at or call 1800 CRICKET (1800 274 25 38). At club level, we are unable to swap participants between programs.

Can parents get involved in the program?

The Junior Blaster program is designed for parents to get involved and spend some quality time with their child learning the skills of cricket.  Parents involvement is a huge determinant of participant enjoyment, skill progression and achievement. The ‘Blast Crew’ has been developed to provide clarity and options for parents and volunteers to get involved.

When parents/guardians fill out the participant registration form online, they have the option to select whether they are willing to assist on-field or off-field, and we actively encourage this. You can also contact us directly to express your interest in assisting with the program.

NOTE: This season we will be looking for more parental support with on field drills, set up and the famous BCC BBQ!

How old does my child have to be to participate?

The program is for girls and boys aged between 5 - 7 years old.

What ability is the program aimed at?

Junior Blasters is aimed at boys and girls aged 5-7 and of all abilities. Absolutely no prior experience with cricket is necessary. Junior Blasters is Australian cricket's entry level participation program. It is designed to teach children the basics of the game in a fun, safe environment.

What if my child has a disability?

Bentleigh Cricket Club run a Junior All Abilities cricket program along side the Junior Blasters program.  Follow this link for more information.

What are the dates for the program and how long does each session go for?

The program launch / come and try day is on November 3rd, with an additional six sessions before Christmas and four after. Sessions commence at 5:30pm and wrap up at 6:30pm. We will re-confirm dates and starting times closer to the program start.

How safe is the program and are participants insured?

The weekly lesson plans for the Junior Blasters cricket program have been carefully written by Cricket Australia and the program is supported by the Australian Sports Commission.

Our program is run by a Cricket Australia Level 1 Accredited coach and once a participant's parent/guardian signs a registration form, participants are insured.

If you have a medical and/or a physical condition that may require you needing assistance during the program, make sure you tell us on the form when you register. This way, we know who you are and can ensure our staff are there to help you if you need it.

What if my participant is too old for the Junior Blasters program or I want to move onto playing junior cricket?

We have an excellent junior program and offer both the Cricket Blast program and an Under 12 Rookies team for kids just starting out in junior cricket.

Details about our junior program and Rookies cricket can be found on the juniors page of our website.
